President's bio

  • Dr. Deborah Snyder has been president of St. Clair County Community College (SC4) since March 7, 2016.   

    Dr. Snyder is a graduate of Port Huron Northern High School, and also attended SC4. Her academic credentials include a Ph.D. in organizational communication, a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wayne State University.

    Prior to her appointment at SC4, Dr. Snyder served as President and Chief Academic Officer for Cogswell College, a regionally accredited institution in the San Francisco Bay Area.

    Over the course of her 30-year career in higher education, Dr. Snyder has held multiple academic and administrative leadership positions at the University of Michigan-Flint, Walsh College of Business in Troy, Michigan, and Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She served as Dean of Business and Senior Vice Provost for Academic Programs at Strayer University in Washington, D.C. Additionally, she has consulted with colleges and universities across the country in areas of academic program quality, reputation building, and integrated communication strategies.

    Dr. Snyder has written two books, one about adult learners, The New Traditionals, and the second on Internet Marketing, e-Marketing Basics. She is published in encyclopedias of instructional technology and distributed learning. A third book, Old School, New School, is in the final stages of production and details the present state and future potential for institutions of higher education.

    Dr.  Snyder met her husband, Tom, while both were attending Port Huron Northern. The Snyders have two adult daughters, two grandchildren, and are diehard Detroit Red Wings fans.
